The Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement underway since June 2007 is also likely to be discussed at the summit.

New Delhi: The India-European Union summit is slated to begin in New Delhi on Friday. The proposed free trade pact, which has been hanging fire for quite some time, will figure prominently.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lead the Indian delegation while European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso will lead the EU team.

The Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement underway since June 2007 is also likely to be discussed at the summit.

The EU as a block of 27 countries is India's largest trading partner accounting for about 14 per cent of our foreign trade.

The FTA would involve slashing of duties on over 90 per cent of the trade and opening up of mutual markets for services and investment.
