New Delhi: As a part of the due diligence process for Hutch-Essar, Reliance Communications Chairman Anil Ambani on Thursday met Finance Minister P Chidambaram and senior DoT officials.
Even as his company started examining the books of Hutchison Essar Ltd (HEL) for a possible bid, Anil met the Financial Minister most likely to discuss issues related to the intended bid.
Vodafone has already initiated the due diligence process, while Essar's bankers also began studying HEL's books on Wednesday.
Anil also met DoT Secretary D S Mathur and is also likely to meet Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
Anil's meeting comes just a day after Vodafone's CEO Arun Sarin and Essar Chairman Shashi Ruia met Chidambaram on Wednesday. Both Ruia and Sarin had separately called on Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
In order to garner Government support for Vodafone’s bid for Hutch-Essar stake Sarin also met Commerce Minister Kamal Nath presumably to discuss FDI policy in telecom sector, besides other regulatory issues.
Meanwhile, after expressing its willingness to partner Ruias-promoted Essar on Wednesday, British telecom giant Vodafone on Thursday kept its option open to partner Reliance Communication to rope in India's fourth largest mobile player Hutch-Essar.
