'AI Will Not Replace Humans': Deloitte Managing Director
Rohit Tandon, a managing director in Deloitte’s AI & Data said that this is not the first time when some jobs have been replaced by technology which sparked a fear.

It is often thought that with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, the number of job vacancies and positions will gradually decrease which can lead to an increase in unemployment. This has been a growing debate across the globe. Recently, Rohit Tandon, a managing director in Deloitte’s AI & Data shared his insight about the debate. He mentioned that though Artificial Agency will eliminate some jobs, it will also create jobs in new roles that people can’t predict presently.

In an interview with PTI, Rohit Tandon mentioned that though some people think that AI will replace humans, it is never possible as the need for humans will remain for life. He added that people feared losing jobs similarly when IT, technology and computers came into existence. But that did not happen. Instead, technology created more jobs. He said, “AI will, with people, replace people…It’s not just AI replacing people. You still need humans in the loop.”

He said, “Just look at how many more jobs have been created across the globe because of IT. The same thing is going to happen with Artificial Intelligence. It’s going to be all-pervasive, just like it is today, just like you have some of the biggest supercomputers that exist today available on your phone, some of the most powerful AI algorithms will be at your disposal, in your purses, and in your wallets, in your pockets.”

Rohit added that this is not the first time when some jobs have been replaced by technology, which sparked widespread fear of losing jobs. He said, “We have done this before with automation companies, call centres, etc. We have automated some easier jobs using technology while the tougher problems are there for humans to solve. It will lead to job changes. AI will be replaced by AI with Humans. If you look at the pyramid of the jobs, AI will start automating easier things that will save time. People in the future will use AI to grow their knowledge and find information rapidly which will be needed to serve humankind,” according to a report by Business Standard.
