Wagh Bakri Tea Group executive director Parag Desai passed away at a private hospital in Ahmedabad late on Sunday evening.
According to reports, 49-year-old Desai was admitted to the city hospital after he suffered injuries following a horrific accident near his residence.
A report by Times of India quoted sources close to Desai’s family as saying that he met with a freak accident while on a morning walk near Iscon Ambli Road on the morning of October 15. He suffered a severe head injury following a fall, sources were further quoted.
The report further quoted a source privy to the development, “He was first taken to a private hospital in Prahladnagar area. As his condition began deteriorating after nearly 24 hours, he was shifted to another private hospital on Hebatpur Road. A surgery was carried out immediately.”
The report stated that their sources confirmed Desai succumbed to multiple health complications late on Sunday after staying on a ventilator for seven days.
Some local reports stated that the accident occurred when he was attacked by street dogs. A report in Ahmedabad Mirror mentioned that a security guard outside his residence alerted his family members about the incident after which he was rushed to Shelby Hospital.
“With profound grief, we regret to inform the sad demise of our beloved Parag Desai,” Wagh Bakri Tea Group said in an Instagram post.
Desai was the son of Rasesh Desai, Managing Director of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group. He is survived by his wife Vidisha and daughter, Parisha.
Offering his condolences, Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil wrote on X, “Very sad news coming in. Parag Desai, Director and owner Wagh Bakri Tea passed away. He had a brain hemorrhage following a fall. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Wagh Bakri family across India.”
According to Exchange4Media, Desai, with over 30 years of entrepreneurship experience, spearheaded International Business, Sales and Marketing of the Group. He actively participated in leading industry platforms like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and was a respected voice of the industry.
