SEVILLE, Spain: South Africa extended its unbeaten start to the rugby sevens world series after beating Australia 33-7 in the final in Spain on Sunday.

The South Africans have won six straight tournaments, including the only two last season, and 34 consecutive matches, tying the second longest streak in series history by New Zealand in 2001-02.

South Africa’s Justin Geduld was taken off on a stretcher after a physical start to the final, and Australia opened the scoring with a Ben Dowling converted try.

But South Africa leveled at the end of the half when Christie Grobbelaar dribbled a grubber by Selvyn Davids to the in goal and touched down.

Grobbelaar added his second try after halftime as South Africa pulled away comfortably. Ryan Oosthuizen went over even while teammate Darren Adonis was in the sin-bin.

Australia suffered consecutive yellow cards and South Africa took advantage with tries to Adonis and captain Impi Visser.

South Africa leads the series by 18 points over Argentina, and 22 points over Australia.

The series is next in Singapore on April 9-10.
