At least 14 people were killed after an Indian-registered passenger bus, carrying at least 40 passengers, plunged into the Marsyangdi River in central Nepal on Friday. The accident took place at Aaina Pahara in Tanahun district.
A team of Nepal’s armed police force personnel, from the country’s disaster management training school, reached the accident site and is carrying out the rescue operation.
According to the preliminary reports, some 10 to 11 dead bodies have been recovered. The bus, with a UP number plate, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu when the incident occurred.
“The bus bearing number plate UP FT 7623 plunged into the river and is lying on the bank of the river,” DSP Deepkumar Raya from the District Police Office Tanahun, was quoted as saying by ANI.
Local police are engaged in rescue work at the scene and more information is awaited.
