From banks to airports and the media, several online services were hit by a massive outage across the world, with some countries going into firefighting mode. From US to UK and India, millions were affected due to the IT outage. While several flights had to be grounded across the world with airport check-in systems crashing, the Sky News network was completely shut briefly and several Windows systems went down with the blue ‘screen of death‘.

Reports said that the outage happened at CrowdStrike, which is a cybersecurity company powering security on Microsoft Windows, facing this issue. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said that the issue had been identified, isolated and a fix had been deployed.

In what was being called one of the biggest IT outages, Australia called an emergency meeting while other countries went manual at airports and halted flights as a precaution.
What Services Were Affected And Where?
India: In India, several airports including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport reported technical glitches. “Due to the global IT issue, some of the services at the Delhi Airport were temporarily impacted. We are closely working with all our stakeholders to minimise the inconvenience to our flyers,” said a statement from the Delhi Airport authorities. Similar statements were issued by several airlines, asking passengers to report at airports early for their flights. Traders on several platforms like Nuvama, 5paisa, Motilal Oswal also faced glitches in placing market orders.
United States: In US, there were reports of 911 outages in several states. American Airlines, Delta and United grounded all flights due to the IT outage. Several airports in the United States, including Los Angeles Airport, were impacted by global IT outages. Washington DC suspended all train services. Widespread computer outages were also reported on US hospital EMR systems. The Associated Press also reported disruption to its services.
UK: IN UK, London Stock Exchange was said to have been impacted by the global outage. The Sky News network went off air briefly due to the outage. UK’s biggest rail operator was said to be facing widespread issues due to the IT outage.
Australia: Australia’s government was set to hold an emergency meeting due to global IT outage as airports and payment systems were majorly hit. Supermarkets and retailers in Australia were facing several glitches due to the outage.
Other countries
Berlin airport had suspended flights due to the outage while disruptions were also reported at Amsterdam airport.
Israel’s central bank also said that the global outage was impacting banks.
The Hong Kong airport switched to manual check-in procedures due to the outage.
Prague airport also reported disruptions and flight delays due to the IT outage.
The outage disrupted the services of AirAsia, Cebu Pacific Air and Singapore Airlines.
