In a shocking incident, a 16-year old from UK died three weeks after consuming contraceptive pill to reduce her period pain.

The teenager, identified as Layla Khan, suffered from painful menstrual cycles and on the advice of her friends took the pill to ease the symptoms

As per a report by The Telegraph, Layla was a college student who had plans to study at Oxford University. She began to take the tablets on November 25 but by December 5 she started having headaches and then soon started puking.

On contacting the 111 NHS helpline, Layla’s family, who belongs to Immingham, North Lincolnshire was told to take her for a check-up the following morning as there were “no red flags”.

“On the Sunday night, she was being sick, a lot. She was basically vomiting every 30 minutes, so we got a GP appointment on the Monday morning,” Layla’s aunt Jenna Braithwaite said.

She further said that even though the teenager was sick the whole time she was at the GP where they gave her anti-sickness tablets and told the family that they thought it was a stomach bug.

On Monday evening, Layla was screaming in pain in her bed, noticing which the family dialed 111 but received no response.

The family decided to take the girl to hospital, however she collapsed in the bathroom as she was having problems with her legs. Layla told her aunt, was looking after her that the pain was “all over”.

Layla became increasingly unresponsive after her aunt and mother carried her to the car.

The victim’s family drove her to the nearest hospital in Grimsby where a CT scan revealed a blood clot in her brain. Following this, she was sent to Hull Royal Infirmary, the family said as quoted by The Telegraph.

Layla underwent an operation but on December 13, she was declared brain dead.

With Christmas knocking at the door, the family stands devastated at the unfortunate incident. “With it being so close to Christmas as well, it sucks all the Christmas spirit out of you,” Ms Braithwaite said.

“We cannot understand why they said there were no red flags and then the day later she’s brain dead. It’s incomprehensible. It’s just such a shock. She had only just started college and got a job. It’s just such a shock. We are absolutely devastated.”

Layla was the oldest in the family and they took the heartbreaking decision to donate her organs for life-saving transplant operations.

The family is currently raising funds to bear the funeral costs. “The family is absolutely devastated, and we would like to help raise as much as possible to help with funeral costs to give Layla the best send-off possible, like she deserves. Ms Braithwaite’s daughter Alicia Binns wrote on the fundraising page.
