A credit card cashback is an offer provided to customers who spend money on products and services. While banks promise satisfactory returns on bill payments, a man from Delhi received a “maha cashback” of only Re 1 after he paid his credit card bill of Rs 87,000. Gurjot Ahluwalia, a manager with Accenture, shared a brief post on the X (formerly known as Twitter) recalling his experience. In his post, Gurjot Ahluwalia said that he would rather use the bank’s portal to pay his bills directly.
“Made a credit card bill payment of 87,000 and received a maha cashback of ₹1 from Cred. Time to stop sharing data with Cred and pay directly from bank portal,” he wrote.

Social media users immediately reacted to the X post, sharing their own experiences. A user wrote, “Should have done that long time ago. For peanuts he is pulling your data and selling to Fintech lenders etc. hope you didn’t allow the email access, which they insist so vehemently,” while another commented, “Stopped it a while back. Pretty useless app now.”
A user brought attention to how the fintech company pulls data even after users delete all cards and wrote, “The worst part is they continue to pull data even after you have deleted all cards from the account and even your account!”
“One of my relatives got duped from Cred for 32,000 transactions from CRED. Upon registering the complaint, they banned their account & they have no way to contact any human through support channels. Now the ball is in cyber police’s court,” one more said.
With several reactions on the microblogging platforms, the post gained over 7 lakh views.
Notably, one of the largest third-party apps for credit card bill payments in India, the Bengaluru-based Cred, presently has more than 15 million active customers and is the fourth largest UPI player in the market. It was founded in 2018 by Kunal Shah. Cred allows users to pay their credit card bills, promising exciting cashback offers, access to events, gift cards and more. It also lets them make other payments like house rent and electricity bills.
