Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda Gates congratulated their eldest daughter Jennifer on her medical school graduation. Jennifer Gates graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. The 28-year-old took to Instagram to reflect on her academic journey. She described her doctoral degree as her childhood dream and wrote, “It’s been a whirlwind of learning, exams, late nights, tears, discipline, and many moments of self-doubt, but the highs certainly outweighed the lows these past 5 years.”

She also thanked her professors, mentors, friends and family for supporting her along the way. Bill Gates, a proud father, commented, “What you have achieved today—and every day leading up to it—is a tremendous accomplishment. I’m so proud of you for finishing medical school, and I can’t wait to watch you take this next step into residency. Your patients will be lucky to call you doctor.”

Melinda Gates wrote, “Jenn, I am so proud of you—and you should be so proud of yourself! What an incredible tribute to your passion, intelligence, and hard work. Can’t wait to see where your next chapter takes you!”

In March, Jennifer revealed that she will be doing her residency at Mt. Sinai in the Pediatrics Research department.

In a 2020 interview with Sidelines Magazine for the July issue, Jennifer recalled that her parents would often discuss global health issues with her and these conversations inspired her to be a doctor. She said, “As a young kid, they always talked to me like I was an adult and weren’t willing to shy around difficult conversations. I grew up hearing about children’s mortality at the dinner table, about polio, about the HIV/AIDS epidemic.”

Bill Gates and Melinda Gates have three kids: Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe. All three kids have maintained a low profile and stayed away from the press. Rory, 24, earned a double major and a master’s from the University of Chicago in 2022. Phoebe, 22, joined the Stanford University post after graduating from high school in 2021.
