The Indian shooter duo created history by winning the country's first-ever medal in a shooting team event at the Olympics.

The Paris edition of the Summer Olympics 2024 has kickstarted with athletes competing from across the globe. With a contingent of 117 athletes, India is already shining at the event and many adding to the country’s medal tally at the Olympics. In the latest, Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh scripted history by winning a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team shooting event on Tuesday. While this marks India’s sixth Olympic medal in shooting, it is also the first-ever in a shooting team event.

When congratulatory messages from fellow countrymen pour all over the internet, Google India also pays its unique homage to the shooter duo. “Ek hi toh dil hai…do baar jeet liya Congratulations to #ManuBhaker and #SarabjotSingh for winning the first ever medal for India in a shooting team event #Paris2024Olympics,” it wrote in a tweet.

Well, this is not it. To celebrate the achievement, Google India has also made a special addition to its homepage. Users searching for India Olympics 2024 will find the bronze medal pop-up on the screen. Upon clicking on it, while India’s victory in the mixed 10m air pistol is displayed, they can also dedicate a bouquet of flowers to the players.

Besides this, Google Doodle is also celebrating the Paris Olympics 2024 with a special game addition to its feature. On the opening day of the event, the tech giant announced that it would change its icon on a regular basis to honour the participants in different events.

Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh Win Bronze

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh defeated South Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee in the 10m air pistol mixed team event on Tuesday. While they didn’t start off quite well, the duo eventually bounced back to lead by 4-2, which they extended to 8-2 after the fifth series. After a tough battle, Manu’s 9.4 and Sarabjot’s 10.2 helped them secure a medal for India.

Following their bronze medals in the mixed team shooting event, the results also made Manu Bhaker the first athlete from independent India to have won two medals in one edition of the Olympics.

Earlier on Sunday, she became the first Indian woman to win a medal for shooting. “I feel really proud and have a lot of gratitude. Thank you so much for all the blessings and love. We can only control what is in our hands,” she said after the historic feat.
