Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xioami has finally launched its much-awaited smartphone Redmi Y2 in India. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is the rebranded version of the Redmi S2 that was launched in China recently. The Redmi Y2 price in India is Rs. 9,999 for the variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and Rs. 12,999 for the model with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, respectively. The smartphone is set to go on sale from June 12 via Amazon India, mi.com, and Mi Home stores. The device will be available in three colour options – Dark Grey, Rose Gold, and Gold. Redmi Y2 launch offers include a Rs 500 instant discount on ICICI Bank on credit and debit cards in the first sale. Apart from this Airtel is also offering a Rs 1,800 instant cashback to Redmi Y2 buyers, and up to 240GB data free.

In terms of specifications, the Redmi Y2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ display with a tall 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and packs a 3,080 mAh battery. The device houses a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Further, it has a 16-megapixel sensor on the front with supports features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock. Xiaomi Redmi Y2 also supports Group Portrait selfie mode. Redmi Y2 dual rear cameras come with large 1.25-micron pixels for better for low-light photography, claims Xiaomi. Redmi Y2 runs MIUI 9.5, which is based on Android Oreo.

Xiaomi MIUI 10 Features:

MIUI 10 - the new version of Xiaomi's custom version of Android will be rolled out for many of its devices in India. The company unveiled its new MIUI10 software along with its latest budget smartphone Redmi Y2. The new interface aims to deliver on three key parameters- speed, design, and sound. The MIUI 10 software has the picture in picture mode that will allow users to continue using one application without having to quit the applications they were already using. Another feature is MIUI’s new ‘Recents’ menu that makes optimal usage of the phone’s screen by showing vertical display of applications in use. This feature supports gestures and makes managing and deleting tasks easy.

The most significant feature however is its native support for 16:9, 18:9 and 19:9 aspect ratio displays. It also contains a variety of sounds for notifications. The interface is loaded with AI features such as AI portrait that makes it possible for its phones to click photographs with bokeh effect without having to use dual cameras.
