WhatsApp officially declared India as its biggest market for its instant messaging and voice calling service and has become the most popular service provided by Facebook in India.
According to a Mashable report, while Facebook had 155 million active users per month in India, WhatsApp is being used by 160 million monthly active users.

The success of WhatsApp in India can be credited to the extensive dependence on SMSs at the time when WhatsApp entered the Indian market.
