'Website Not Hacked', Says IRCTC
It is feared that this data of over one crore customers has been stolen from the IRCTC server.

New Delhi: Contrary to media reports, the e-ticketing portal Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website has not been hacked, the PRO has said.

The IRCTC website is used by lakhs of customers to book railway tickets and personal data including phone number, email ids, Aadhaar Card, driving license number, etc. is required to complete the process. It is feared that this data of over one crore customers has been stolen from the IRCTC server.

IRCTC PRO Sandip Dutta told CNN-News18, "Three days ago, IB cyber cell, Mumbai informed us that some data in the name of IRCTC is in circulation. We set up a committee which is probing this."

He further added,"Railway board is waiting for a copy of the date to be shared by Cyber Cell, only then can we ascertain if it was indeed our data. So far, it has not been established. Probe is on. Website is absolutely fine."

IRCTC witnesses lakhs of transactions every day and if the trove of data is compromised upon, it could give an easy lead to corporations trying to target potential customers and also pave way for multiple crimes including identity theft.

Meanwhile, IRCTC officials have alerted the Maharashtra government and railways.
