Samsung Galaxy Watch lineup could see a big visual change in the near future as per latest reports. The company is likely to follow Apple’s design cues and opt for a square-shaped display, just like the Apple Watch series. Samsung has stayed true to its efforts on the rotating dial for the longest time, but it is probably time to change up things, and using a new design for the display does make a lot of sense.
The Galaxy Watch lineup has gone through upgrades over the years, but you tend to see the same-ish design and it is time for a big refresh from the brand.
The report does not mention when Samsung could adopt the new design, and it is likely that the Galaxy Watch 8 series might be a better bet for the new square-shaped design to make its entry into the market to rival the Apple Watch lineup. Samsung has started using the WearOS platform from Google since the Galaxy Watch 4 series came out.
The next-gen WearOS tech is also looking to solve a big pain point of smartwatch users, which is the mediocre battery life. The new OnePlus Watch 2 seems to be the first model to benefit from this new battery architecture and we might see the likes of Samsung, and even Google Pixel adopting the tech in their future models.
The latest Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic are identical to the Galaxy Watch 5 lineup, so a design overhaul might be overdue, giving Samsung more in its armoury to compete with the best in the segment. We might not have to wait long to see the new Galaxy Z Foldables and the Galaxy Watch 7 series, with multiple reports hinting at a Samsung Galaxy launch event in July to announce these products.
