Kuala Lumpur: Samsung Electronics on Thursday unveiled two new smartphones - Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 - at its Southwest Asia Forum 2016 in Kuala Lumpur. The former is priced at Rs 29,400, while the latter carries a price tag of at Rs 33,400. Both the phones will go on sale in India from February 15.
The new 4G-enabled Galaxy A5 and A7 borrow the design language from the flagship Galaxy S6 and also include a fingerprint sensor. The new phones look the same, but they vary a little in terms of size and some specs. While the Galaxy A5 has a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED full HD display, the A7 features a 5.5-inch full HD display. Also, the former has 2 GB of RAM, while the latter includes 3 GB of RAM.
In terms of other specifications, both the new Galaxy phones have an octa-core processor, 13 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera, and a fast charging feature. The phones include an internal storage space of 16 GB, with support for up to 128 GB of microSD card. The Galaxy A5 comes packed with a 2900 mAh battery and the A7 with a 3300mAh one.
The new Galaxy phones will come in three colours - Gold, Black, and White.
Besides the new smartphones, the South Korean giant, at its forum, also showcased the Windows 10-based Galaxy TabPro S, which was first unveiled to the world early this year at CES 2016. When asked Manu Sharma, director, product marketing, Samsung India electronics, as to when the company plans to bring it to India, he said, "It will be launched in India sometime between April and May." He , however, didn't say anything on the price except for that "it will be priced in the premium segment."
Samsung also announced other new products at the forum including the world's first 5-in-1 smart convertible refrigerator, which enables consumers to be flexible with cooling storage depending on their needs, and the world's first bezel-less curved TV.
In what is said to be the first in the refrigerator category, the fridge and freezer compartments in the new 5-in-1 refrigerator have their own cooling system. The five modes include: Normal, Extra Shopping, Vacation, Seasonal, and Home Alone mode.
Talking about TVs, the company has sought to eliminate unnecessary elements, even removing screws from the rear of the TV. As announced by Samsung, the 2016 range of smart TVs have been built on the Tizen operating system. Also, various streaming and downloadable games will be available in 2016 Smart TVs from global as well as Indian content providers.
