New Delhi: Microsoft has confirmed that it is dropping the Internet Explorer brand and will use a new name for the browser's successor, codenamed Project Spartan.
The company's marketing chief Chris Capossela said that Microsoft was working on a new name and brand that will feature in the upcoming Windows 10 OS, adding that the Internet Explorer will continue to exist along with the new browser.
According to a report in The Verge, Internet Explorer will exist in some versions of the new OS but the Project Spartan browser will be named separately and will be the primary way for Windows 10 users to access the web.
Google's Chrome or Mozilla's Firefox have been preferred web browsers over Microsoft's Internet Explorer which has been tackling poor reputation over speed issues. Although Microsoft has tried to shake off the negative image with a series of amusing campaigns mocking Internet Explorer 6, it has largely been unsuccessful.
There is a possibility that the new browser succeeding the Internet Explorer will have the name-Microsoft-attached to it and could be called Microsoft Project Spartan.
