HTC has unveiled its latest flagship phone, the HTC 10 with a number of improvements and fixing past errors. HTC's flagship phones have drawn good reviews in the past, but it's had trouble translating those into sales.

HTC doesn't currently rank as one of the top five phone manufacturers worldwide and in recent months, it has branched out to fitness and virtual-reality devices. But it isn't giving up on phones.

The company didn't immediately announce pricing for the phone.

Here are 10 highlights of the new HTC 10:

1. HTC is promising a better camera in the HTC 10. Tt has brought down the megapixel count from 20 to 12 but with larger individual pixels (1.55µm).

2. The front camera also gets a slight boost to 5 megapixels.

3. The HTC 10 also joins its rivals in letting the screen serve as a front-facing flash.

4. HTC says its new flagship is the first phone with dual optical image stabilisation (OIS) in both the rear and the front cameras.

5. The HTC 10 has a more powerful 3000 mAh battery than its predecessor. HTC says a single charge should last up to 2 days of use.

6. An already-good metal design will now have sharper edges. The rounder finish in the previous M9 made the phone feel more like a slippery bar of soap, but no longer.

7. Users can customise the home screen so that app icons don't all have to stay in a grid. There will be stickers of different sizes to move around and create a personalised design.

8. For audiophiles, the phone can now handle higher-quality sound files, and the two external speakers have been tweaked so that one focuses on high end notes, while the other emphasises bass.

9. The HTC 10 combines 4K video with stereo, 24–bit, Hi–Res audio recording — that the company says captures 256 times more detail than standard recordings, across twice the frequency range.

10. HTC has also included USB Type-C port with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support for rapid refuelling.
