For those who have been eyeing the latest AirPods Pro 2 with its new USB-C port, but have already purchased the Lightning variant and cannot justify spending an additional Rs 24,900 for the USB-C upgrade from the Lightning connector, there is good news—Apple now offers the AirPods Pro 2 USB-C case as a separate accessory for existing users.
Apple is offering the MagSafe case for Rs 9,900, making it a good deal for someone who already has the second-generation AirPods Pro with the Lightning connector. Simply put, when you buy the USB-C case, you can swap out your AirPods 2 earbuds and place them inside the new case; there’s no change in dimensions or anything like that. So, if you were planning on spending Rs 24,900 on a new pair, Apple may have just saved you close to Rs 15,000.
You can head to Apple’s website in India to buy the new case as it has already been listed on the store. However, if you want AirPods with engraving, you can’t get it when buying the case separately; your only option is buying a brand new pair.
Also, if you are planning on buying this for your old first-generation AirPods Pro—don’t. Apple has specifically listed that these are just for the second-generation pair. “Charging case is compatible with AirPods Pro (2nd generation) that originally shipped with either MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) or MagSafe Charging Case (Lightning),” Apple notes.
Notably, this isn’t the first time that Apple has offered a case separately for users. Earlier, when it brought MagSafe charging to AirPods, it started offering a MagSafe-compliant case for AirPods Pro first generation as well.
