If you are on Android, you would know that it isn’t the best experience to import photos from Google Photos in some apps, but from the looks of it, it appears that Google is working towards adding a new “cloud media app” option to the Android Photo Picker, as reported by Android Authority.
For those uninitiated, Google, starting with Android 13, introduced a new ‘Photo Picker,’ allowing users to select precisely which photos to share with an app. However, this feature notably lacks support for cloud photos stored on services like Google Photos, causing trouble when users want to import files directly from a cloud service into an app, and especially for those who primarily store and backup their media files online in a cloud service.
Soon, this limitation could be removed as Google works on adding the ability to allow a cloud-based service to make its entire contents available to the Photo Picker. This is expected to be integrated deeply with Google Photos, but support for other cloud-based services is also anticipated.
This feature works in limited capacity by manually enabling it in Android 14. Android Authority notes that they could see all their Google Photos media that was.uploaded to the cloud inside their Photo Picker, but there are still some limitations that users face. Nevertheless, Google is expected to bring this feature soon for users.
In related news, Google is now working on a feature that will allow users to save fuel. This feature is called eco-friendly routing, and it works by showing users fuel- or energy-efficiency estimates on certain routes keeping in account the vehicle’s engine type. It was previously only available in the United States, Europe, and Canada, but it is now being rolled out for Indian users as well.
