Many leading Tamil stars including Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Dhanush, and Raghav Lawrence witnessed momentous success with the films released this year. Cinemagoers, on the other hand, got the opportunity to experience the magic created by these stars in cinemas once again. Almost all the movies of these stars released this year turned out to be blockbusters. 2023 was also the year of comeback for many Tamil actors. Let’s take a look at some endearing comebacks that led 2023 to become one of the most successful years for Tamil cinema.
There were quite a few actors who made their resurgence after delivering some flop films earlier. The biggest story has to be that of Rajinikanth, who made a stellar comeback this year with Jailer. The film grossed over Rs 650 crore worldwide. Another superstar of Tamil cinema, whose popularity and fan base know no bounds, Ajith Kumar returned this year with his successful film Thunivu. His fans were all excited to watch him perform on big screens.
Jigarthanda DoubleX was a much-needed success for Raghava Lawrence, who often attracts criticism for his films. The actor silenced everyone with his performance in the film, which was a commercial as well as critical success. Lawrence, during the film’s release, had noted, “I’ve never thought about awards while selecting stories. I have always wanted to do commercial films, but thankfully, in Jigarthanda DoubleX, both commercial elements and great characterization have been woven in.”
Besides all these stars, the year was great for Dhanush as well whose film Vaathi earned a total of Rs 118 crore at the box office. Earlier, the actor left his fans disappointed in 2022, as his film Naane Varuvean did not do well. With the film Vaathi, the actor managed to impress his fans once again which reflected well in the box-office collections of the film.
To summarise, it has been a fantastic year for the Tamil actors and it is expected that they will be making more strides in 2024.
