After Gadar 2 vs OMG 2, another big box office clash is all set to take place in a few days. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’s Salaar will be releasing later this week and the hype for both the films is unparalleled. As such, the advance for both the flicks is bound to get into a ‘neck-to-neck’ situation. Let’s take a look at the latest update on it.
If reports were to be believed, Prabhas’s Salaar is trailing behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki by a small margin. As per the trade site Sacnilk, while Dunki has Rs 4.46 crore worth of tickets, Prashanth Neel’s directorial has made Rs 3.58 crore. Leading up to the release of the films on December 21 and December 22 respectively, this box office race is only going to get intense and nail-biting.
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel has also shared his thoughts on the clash through his X(formerly Twitter) handle. He wrote, “Dunki Initial pre-sale starts on a remarkable note. Film has sold 10K +tickets at national chain multiplexes. Non national chains showing good movement too. If the momentum continues then Dunki will challenge top films of 2023 in terms of final advance booking. Next 3 days will give a clear picture (sic).”
Salaar producer Vijay Kirgandur of Hombale Films has opened about the possible “ugly fights” between the Prabhas starrer and Dunki over screens.
“We don’t want things to be ugly,” Vijay told Bollywood Hungama.com. “We are already having meetings with the exhibitors and distributors. When we have a solo release, the occupancy generally will be around 60-70 percent. Some screens will go to Aquaman but between Salaar and Dunki, we hope to get 50-50 screens in the best scenario. In such a scenario, if an occupancy of 90-100 percent is achieved, it’ll be a good result for both films. Even if we get more screens, the occupancy will anyway go down to 60 percent or 70 percent. What we are planning is that we should get more occupancy, even if we get fewer screens than what we would have got if Salaar was a solo release. Even Overseas, these discussions are going on. Programming is the key now and that’s what we are focusing on, without getting into ugly fights.”
