'What Was The Need': In One-on-One With PM Modi, Sharad Pawar Slams ED Action Against Sanjay Raut
The NCP supremo also told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he had no inclination of becoming the president of the UPA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar sat down for a one-on-one meeting on Wednesday, where the veteran leader from Maharashtra questioned the action of the Enforcement Directorate against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. The meeting between the two leaders created a buzz in political circles and lasted for 20 to 25 minutes.

Talking to the media after the meeting that took place in parliament, Pawar said, “I raised the issue of misuse of central agencies against Sanjay Raut. I told the PM that it was nothing but injustice. Raut is a Rajya Sabha member and a senior journalist.”

He added, “Just because he [Raut] makes statements and criticisms, it does not mean action needs to be taken against him. What was the need?

The ED on Tuesday attached property worth Rs 11.15 crores belonging to Raut, who later called the action as the BJP’s “vendetta politics”. The ED is probing several MVA leaders. Two NCP leaders are already behind bars.

Pawar also told Prime Minister Modi that he had no inclination of becoming the president of the UPA. Speaking to the media in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur on April 3, the NCP chief had said he will not be leading an anti-BJP front and was not keen on becoming the chairperson of the UPA.

Pawar also took up various issues the people of Lakshadweep were facing. He said Lakshadweep was centrally ruled, and Praful K patel was the administrator with additional charge. But, the island had been witnessing numerous issues when it comes to transportation and human resources, Pawar told the PM.

Pawar said he had met NCP MP Mohammed Faisal along with his other colleagues and there were several problems regarding health, education and human resource over there after Patel was given additional charge.

“People are under a lot of distress. There is not much scope for private jobs, so people are relying on government jobs. Due to shunted contracts, there has been a loss of Rs 2.45 crore to labourers,” Pawar added.
