Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh on Friday offered to resign from Rajya Sabha if charges against him in the West Bengal chit fund scam were proved. In a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Ghosh wrote, "If it's proved that I am related to the money market schemes of Saradha, I am willing to resign from Rajya Sabha."
Kunal Ghosh's name cropped up in the scam after a letter written by Saradha group promoter Sudipta Sen to the CBI on April 6 this year came to light. In the letter, Sudipta Sen levelled several charges against Ghosh and another TMC MP saying that they offered him protection and easy access to Mamata in return for appointing Ghosh as the CEO of a channel he had newly acquired at a salary of Rs 15 lakh per month.
Both the MPs have vehemently denied the charges.
Meanwhile, the Left and the Congress have called for a probe into the allegations. The party, however, has given a cautious statement saying it would "be nice if the two step down. They must defend themselves".
FIR filed against Sudipta Sen, Kunal Ghosh and 6 others
Twenty employees of news channel Channel 10 on Friday filed an FIR against Sudipta Sen and Kunal Ghosh over non-payment of salaries.
The FIR was filed by a section of the Channel 10 employees at the Park Street Police Station on Thursday night. The FIR, which also names six other senior employees of the organisation, has alleged fraud by the company management on grounds of non-payment of salaries which are pending since February 2013. This is the seventh complaint lodged against the Saradha top brass.
