New Delhi: With the Met Department predicting below-normal monsoon, the Union government is working out its contingency plans. It has issued advisories to states for quick action. The states have been directed to ensure availability of seeds for meeting contingency cropping requirement in the eventuality of deficient rainfall.
They have also been told to initiate drought mitigation measures which means construction of water harvesting, promoting cultivation of less water consuming crops and replacing faulty pumps.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, along with other ministers will be meeting PM Modi later today on the contingency plan.
