Karunanidhi says an announcement would be made shortly.

New Delhi: There was speculation that DMK Deputy General Secretary M K Stalin would be appointed as successor at the party's two-day youth wing conference held at Tirunelveli.

Though no formal announcement was made, Chief Minister Karunanidhi sought to clear the air, saying an announcement would be made shortly.

Karunanidhi's told the party men that they should be prepared for a more active role for Stalin in the party and government.

"Do not aspire for posts. It should come to you through your sacrifices. Posts should come to you. You should not go after that," PTI quoted him as saying in his presidential address at the DMK's youth wing conference.

Stalin, also the youth wing leader, asked his followers to work for creation of a casteless society.

"The youth wing should celebrate the birth centenary of party founder C N Annadurai, which falls on September 15, 2008, in a grand way during which party cadre should take vow to establish a casteless society," he said.

He also said that the DMK youth wing, which was started as a youth club in the late sixties, had now emerged as one of the important wings of the party.
