Lucknow: Condemning murder of a senior health department official in Gomti Nagar area, SP on Saturday demanded a CBI probe into the killing and other such incidents of suicides and murders.

"Officers in UP are forced to work under pressure from mafias as well as top bureaucrats of the Chief Minister's office...We demand a CBI probe into all incidents of suicides and murder, including the CMO murder case, of senior officials in the state," SP state president Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement.

BP Singh, the chief medical officer in the family welfare department, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne persons when he had gone for morning walk.

In October last year, Vinod Kumar Arya, who was posted on the same post, was shot dead near his Vikas Nagar residence when he had gone for morning walk.

Singh, a cardiologist at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and also general secretary of Provincial Medical Services, was appointed as the CMO a few months ago.

Yadav alleged senior IAS officer Harminder Raj Singh committed suicide due to pressure but the probe was stopped.

"A employee of social welfare department Mohd Safi was killed on March 2 last. Last year, family welfare department CMO V K Arya was also shot dead," he said.

The Congress also condemned the incident and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

"Law and order situation has hit the bottom and there has been a spurt in cases of serious crimes in the state," UPPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said.

She said the government should have got alert after the murder of Arya and property security to Singh brought in his place be ensured.

"A CBI inquiry should be ordered into the incident and CM should resign on moral grounds as she has failed in restoring law and order," Joshi said.
