New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear West Bengal government's plea on Monday challenging the Calcutta High Court order for the CBI investigation into the alleged custodial death of a TMC activist in Hooghly. Trinamool Congress worker Kazi Nasiruddin allegedly died due to police brutality on January 19 after he was picked up for allegedly not possessing documents required for the vehicle he was driving.
Hooghly Superintendent of Police, Tanmoy Roychowdhury had said that Nasiruddin was taken to the police station by a night patrol after finding him in an inebriated state. He said that Nasiruddin's wife Manuja Begum filed an FIR at the police station that her husband, a resident of Jairambati village, was allegedly beaten to death by the police.
A friend of Nasiruddin, Sabir Ali, however, had alleged that when he went to the police station around 11 pm he found him lying naked with a number of policemen surrounding him who claimed that he had fallen unconscious.
Ali had said that Nasiruddin was declared dead when he was taken to hospital. He had said that Nasiruddin, who had recently bought a mini-truck, was bringing it back after a religious ceremony and had stopped at a sweet shop when he was picked up by the police.
