New Delhi: Two days after he quit the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) after being denied an election ticket Sadhu Yadav, brother-in-law of Lalu Prasad, on Saturday said that he could get a ticket to contest for the Congress party from Bettiah.
Yadav and other rebels who left the RJD after Sadhu was denied a ticket from his regular seat of Gopalganj met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and offered their support.
After meeting Gandhi, Yadav met mediapersons and hinted that he could be contesting from Bettiah (West Champaran) but was unsure of the fate of the others who quit RJD with him.
"The party has decided", Yadav said when asked if Congress party was giving him a ticket.
"I expressed my faith in Sonia Gandhi and Congress party during the meeting," Yadav said, adding, "I feel I have come home."
Yadav and his supporters shouted 'jai ho Sonia Gandhi', 'jai ho Rahul' when leaving the Congress office.
Sadhu had won the Lok Sabha election from Gopalganj in 2004. However, this seat is now a reserved one post-delimitation and he wanted to contest from Bettiah.
This request of his was turned down by the RJD after it come into an alliance with Ram Vilas Paswan-led Lok Janshkati Party (LJSP).
The new allies have given the Bettiah seat ticket to Bollywood director Prakash Jha.
Claiming that there is a wave in favour of Congress in Bihar, Yadav said," Congress will be re-established in Bihar after election. Many more people would join the party."
Yadav has criminal cases lodged against him and his name featuers among the accused in the Bihar flood relief scam.
Former Union minister and senior RJD leader Ramai Ram, earlier a close confidante of Lalu Prasad, who joined Congress along with Yadav said," In Bihar till now, it was Lalu-Ramai but now it will Sonia, Anil Sharma, Sadhu Yadav and Ramai."
