Mumbai: Senior IAS officer Ratnakar Gaikwad would be the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, replacing JP Dange, officials said on Monday.
Gaikwad was holding the post of the Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).'
His name for the top post was finalised in a meeting held in Mumbai on late Monday evening under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, an official in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
"Gaikwad is expected to take charge tomorrow," the official said.
Gaikwad belongs to 1974 Maharashtra IAS cadre and started his career from Naxal-hit Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha.
He has worked as Municipal Commissioner of Pune and Additional Municipal Commissioner in Mumbai. He also had a stint in the Prime Minister's Office.
Gaikwad is credited with starting infrastructure projects like skywalk, monorail, community toilets and rental housing scheme for Mumbai as the MMRDA Commissioner.
