Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackery has met the family of Mumbai policeman Pradeep Suryavanshi who was convicted recently in the Lakhan Bhaiya fake encounter case. He is the second high profile Maharashtra politician to back Suryavanshi.

Raj Thackeray's cousin and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had earlier offered him legal aid. Suryavanshi and 12 other policemen were convicted of killing Lakhan Bhaiya who was an aide of gangster Chhota Rajan.

Lakhan Bhaiya was killed on November 11, 2006 in Mumbai's Versova area. Lakhan was accused in 19 cases including 12 of murder.

In 2008, the Bombay High Court had ordered an magisterial inquiry and later appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
