Mumbai: A PIL has been filed in the Bombay High Court challenging the name of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claiming that it violates the spirit of Constitution and Representative of People Act 1951.
The PIL has also raised several legal issues such as whether the "aam aadmi" is a word of expression or whether all parties are not an "Aam Aadmi Party".
It also alleges that the Election Commission of India of neglected many laws and rules while allocating the name. It says that many guiding principles of natural justice of the law have also been neglected by the EC which it claims is a gross negligence.
The petitioner calls himself an 'aam aadmi' and activist lawyer by profession. He appeared for Civil Services Examination. He claims that the UPSC refused him permission to speak in Hindi during an interview and forced him to speak only in English.
He claims that he has also challenged such rule of the UPSC in 2010 before the Bombay High Court. As a result now UPSC candidates can speak in their mother tongue during the interview.
