Kolkata: Ahead of the September 13 by-elections to Chowringhee and Basirhar Dakshin Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, the Congress, BJP and CPI(M) on Tuesday expressed apprehension of violence and rigging and demanded deployment of central forces in every booth.
"The ruling party has planned to unleash terror and violence and many outsiders have assembled in the poll-bound constituencies", WBPCC President Adhir Chowdhury said after meeting the state chief electoral officer.
Stating that his party has no faith on the state police, he demanded deployment of central forces in every polling booth in the two constituencies. Echoing similar apprehension, BJP National Secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said now rigging was absent in other states in the country except in West Bengal.
"This time we will try to stop rigging and ensure that security arrangements are in place", he said. CPI(M) leader and former minister Rekha Goswami who met the chief electoral officer said they urged him to ensure that the by-election was peaceful. She also demanded that central forces should be deployed in all polling booths.
