Ooh la la! These Indian politicos love to lead with their style statements
They may not have many political success stories to their credit, but make headlines for their chic looks.

Much like Bollywood A-listers, Indian politicos too wish to live a normal life. In addition to their lives being monitored, these politicians, a lot like Bollywood biggies, are mocked and slammed each time their comments don't go down well with the masses. And when it comes to their fashion choices, they can't afford to be lackadaisical either. We draw up a list of young Indian politicians who may not have too many political success stories to their credit, but do hit the headlines for making a style statement. Rahul Gandhi: Even though PM Manmohan Singh holds Rahul Gandhi as the ideal choice for the post of Prime Minister post the 2015 general elections, we aren’t sure if that’s what everybody would nod their heads in approbation to. For many believe Rahul’s surname is his greatest qualification! Just last month, Rahul proved he was cut off from the ground reality when, while speaking at a discourse on ’Culture, Deepening Democracy and Most Marginalised Communities’ in Lucknow, he was quoted as saying, ”Poverty is just a state of mind. It does not mean the scarcity of food, money or material things. If one possesses self-confidence, then one can overcome poverty.” Irrespective of how his political statements and contribution is perceived, Rahul continues to top the list of most good-looking politicos.

Agatha Sangama: She is the daughter of PA Sangma. As the youngest MP in the Indian Parliament, a lot is expected from Agatha. We don’t doubt her potential, but wish she hit the headlines often for her political work. As far as her fashion choice goes, she loves to keep it simple. Agatha, who opted for a regional outfit at the oath-taking ceremony sports western ensembles during the Parliament session. And we love it.

Priya Dutt: Priya, who carries the lineage of the Dutt family, looks as impressive in Indian outfits as in western ensembles. Wouldn’t we like to read more about the political achievements of this assertive and no-nonsense lady? Currently representing Mumbai North Central constituency for the Indian National Congress, Priya has a charming voice, and a powerful personality. We want to see her more actively involved in political issues than supporting her brother Sanjay Dutt.

Sachin Pilot: Even though Sachin Pilot’s constituency is in the interiors of Rajasthan (he represents the Ajmer constituency on the ticket of Indian National Congress), he likes to keep style formal and casual. He looks effortlessly stylish even in simple kurta-pajama. Son of deceased Congress politician and Union Minister Rajesh Pilot, Sachin is a management graduate from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA.

Shashi Tharoor: Congress leader and Union minister Shashi Tharoor enjoys dressing in a sophisticated manner. He fits perfectly into his typical neta attire. Such is the impact of Shashi Tharoor that he even told a tabloid last year about the Bollywood and Malayalam filmmakers offering him roles in their projects. ”Given our ‘wonderful’ media environment where anything you do is liable to be misrepresented, I simply want to focus on being an effective constituent MP and a serious voice in our national discussions,” he was quoted as saying.

Dimple Yadav: Wife of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple was recently elected unopposed from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat. Going by her public appearances, Dimple isn’t popular for unique style or oh-so-fashionable ensembles. Instead, she flaunts her desi style with ease and perfection.

Milind Deora: Son of Murali Deora, Milind Deora was inducted as Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology in the Union Government of India in 2011. Milind doesn’t wear stuff that doesn’t suit his body type. He has established his image of a politico who is also a stylish looker.

K Chiranjeevi: Actor K Chiranjeevi, started Praja Rajyam, a political party in the state of Andhra Pradesh in 2008. And in 2012, he was sworn in as the Union Minister of State (Independent charge), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. As someone who has been part of the showbiz industry for decades, looking chic is not a mammoth task. Even though he is often spotted wearing crisp white shirts, he flaunts his style credentials at important dos and social gatherings.
