Omar asks Jaitley to join R-Day celebrations
JKLF announces a parallel march to Lal Chowk to counter BJP's flag hoisting programme.

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on social networking site Twitter, invited Jaitley to attend the Republic Day celebrations and extended his invitation to Sushma Swaraj to attend either Jammu or Srinagar functions.

A BJP delegation led by Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and youth BJP leader Anurag Thakur, was stopped at Lakhanpur in J-K on Tuesday when they tried to proceed towards Srinagar to hoist the Tricolour at Lal Chowk.

Around 400 Tricolour-bearing, slogan-chanting BJP workers were detained as they crossed the Punjab-Jammu and Kashmir border.

Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj will be produced in a court in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The leaders are likely to be kept under detention till Wednesday evening.

The Omar Abdullah government has shut down highways to foil BJP's yatra and schools have been closed as well. The government has suspended traffic on the Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu-Srinagar highways and sealed off all entry points to the state.

In Jammu, the police lathicharged BJP workers at the Parade ground on Tuesday afternoon. Around 400 workers were detained and the party had to scale down its march. The BJP has said that only 500 workers will try to cross over from Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jawahar tunnel in Banihal - through which the yatra was to pass - also has been closed.

All schools in Jammu too have been closed as part of security measures.

Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) had announced a parallel march to Lal Chowk to counter the flag hoisting programme of the BJP.

JKLF said the police crackdown cannot deter it from going ahead with its proposed march to Lal Chowk on Wednesday.

Continuing its crackdown on activists of JKLF, the police arrested around a dozen of them from central Kashmir's Budgam district and other areas.

JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Peoples Conference leader Bilal Gani Lone and senior separatist leader Shahid-ul-Islam remained underground to evade arrest.
