Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has rallied behind party's PM nominee Narendra Modi claiming that the BJP-ruled NDA would form a government at the Centre with a clear majority.
The BJP leader, who is lauded for his work in the state, made it clear that Modi as PM will need the help of good chief ministers too.
Speaking at the Google Hangout organised by Network18 and Google, Chouhan time and again refuted the claims that he would ever compete with Modi for the PM post if NDA came to power. He assured, "BJP has already proclaimed its PM candidate, and there is no question of me aiming for that post."
Even as the row over ticket distribution continues to haunt BJP, Chouhan downplayed reports of senior party leaders being sidelined ahead of elections. He said, "There are no 'clubs' in BJP and the party is united." He also claimed that 99 per cent of the Lok Sabha tickets have been provided to old cadre of the party.
When asked whether Chouhan would climb the ladders at Centre using his 'Madhya Pradesh model' like Modi did, the three-time CM said, "I am limited to MP; I want to concentrate and work on my state."
At a time when the party is facing flak from its own leaders over induction of expelled JDU leader Sabir Ali, Chouhan said that the BJP did not differentiate people on the basis of religion. He also claimed that the party was becoming more open to giving tickets to leaders from the Muslim community. "The BJP is increasingly giving ticket to leaders from Muslim community," he said.
