Varanasi: BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from the temple town of Varanasi, Murali Manohar Joshi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the coming general elections.
Joshi, riding in an open truck and followed by a large procession of vehicles, went up to the collectorate and filed his papers in four sets, proposed by Mayor of Varanasi Kaushlendra Singh, former BJP MP Shankar Prasad Jaisawal, BJP MLC-Kedar Nath Singh and senior BJP leader Anant Dev Sharma respectively.
The senior BJP leader handed over the papers to the District Electoral Officer and District Magistrate of Varanasi Ajay Kumar Upadhyay.
Joshi, while thanking people for their support, said he will work for regaining the old glory of the city.
He is the first candidate to file nomination papers for the constituency, which goes to the polls in the first phase on April 16 with 123 other Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.
