Mayawati does a U-turn, allots land for rail project
The UP CM decided to lease 189 hectares of land for rail project for 99 years.

New Delhi: The UP Cabinet has decided to lease 189 hectares of disputed land for the construction of rail coach factory for a period of 99 years, state Chief Minister Mayawati said in a press conference on Saturday.

Mayawati withdrew her controversial decision to cancel land allotment for a rail coach factory in Congress president Sonia Gandhi's constituency Rae Bareli.

The state cabinet decided to return the land for the project at Lalganj town.

The Chief Minister had announced cancelling land allotment Monday, a day before Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi was to attend for an inauguratio ceremony.

Earlier, Sonia had cancelled her plans to address a rally and perform Bhoomi Pujan for a rail coach factory in her Lok Sabha constituency Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday after Mayawati government clamped prohibitory orders in the area.
