New Delhi: After the Solicitor General of India Mohan Parasaran conveyed to Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung that enacting the Lokpal Bill without clearance from the Central government will be unconstitutional, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit back. The AAP has said that the issue is being politicised.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet the L-G on Friday evening to discuss the issue.
The party is seeking legal opinion before going ahead with its draft Lokyukta. According to sources, noted lawyers Pinaki Mishra, Justice Mukul Mudgal, KN Bhatt and 2 others are being consulted on the issue.
Parasaran on Thursday had conveyed to Delhi's Lt governor Najeeb Jung that enacting the Bill without clearance from the Central government will be unconstitutional.
The Solicitor General is also believed to have said that the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, passed by Parliament is in force and a Lokpal Bill in Delhi will be repugnant to central law and therefore requires the assent of the President.
Parasaran's opinion was sought by L-G Najeeb Jung on the constitutionality of the Delhi government's proposal to enact the Bill without seeking Centre's clearance.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has toughened its stand and has said that it will oppose the anti-graft Bill in the Delhi assembly.
