New Delhi: Cricket should be kept free from politics and the game should not become a ball for politicians, the Supreme Court observed on Monday. "Let cricket be a game and not a ball for politicians," observed a bench comprising Justice RM Lodha and Justice AR Dave.
The remarks were made by the bench during the hearing of a petition relating to the ongoing dispute between two rival associations of cricket in Bihar for running the administration of the sport in the state.
Former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirti Azad, who is associated with the Association of Bihar Cricket, has sought to be made intervenor in a matter. The Association of Bihar Cricket is a rival of Bihar Cricket Association led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad as its president.
