Left kick starts its Lok Sabha poll campaign with a rally in Kolkata
The Left is expected to rake up the Saradha chit fund scam and target the ruling Trinamool Congress government over it.

Kolkata: Flexing its political muscle ahead of Lok Sabha elections, the Left is all set to hold a massive rally in Kolkata on Sunday.

Today's rally in the capital city's Brigade Parade ground is Left's first political rally this year. It also comes just a week after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched her campaign at the same venue. BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi too had addressed a rally on the ground earlier this week.

The Left is expected to rake up the Saradha chit fund scam and target the ruling Trinamool Congress government for the biggest financial scam in the state which had triggered a spate of suicides by agents and depositors of ponzi firms.

The West Bengal Assembly had in December 2013 passed The West Bengal Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments Bill, 2013 in order to bring unscrupulous financial companies to the books.

The Saradha scandal came to light in April when the company closed shop across Bengal, unable to pay back the depositors, mainly poor people in small towns and villages, who had parked their life's savings with the group, lured by the promise of huge returns.
