Landslide for BJP in MP and Rajasthan, Gehlot decimated, hat-trick for Chouhan
Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to make a hat-trick in Madhya Pradesh and Vasundhara Raje is returning to power by achieving party's best ever results.

New Delhi: Shivraj Singh Chouhan achieves a hat-trick in Madhya Pradesh and Vasundhara Raje returns to power in Rajasthan. The BJP has registered an impressive victory in both the states by decimating the Congress. The worst defeat for the Congress has come from the desert state of Rajasthan. The Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot led Congress government has been buried in the sands of the Thar deserts.

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje has transformed and a neck and neck fight into a one way contest after she hit the campaign trail. The BJP has almost secured a 3/4th majority in the 200 members Assembly.

Vasundhara Raje led the campaign from the front. She toured the entire state mobilizing the support for the BJP. Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi also backed her by addressing several mega rallies across the state. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi had led the party campaign. The massive victory of the BJP has put question marks over their ability to win votes for the party.

Reacting to the results the Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "anti-incumbency has helped the BJP in Rajasthan. The state changes the government every five years."

The spectacular victory in Rajasthan is also great news for former BJP president Nitin Gadkari, who was the poll in charge there. Gadkari is also the party in charge for Delhi.

Even some of the BJP leaders were not sure of a clear victory in the state. They were expecting a hung assembly with BJP as the single largest party. Today's victory has gladdened the heart of Vasundhara backers in the party. She is not sharing a good relationship with the RSS and a certain section in the party.

According to political analysts she lost the 2008 polls due to infighting and corruption charges against her. The 'Maharani' is also not very accessible to the people and party workers. Some say, she has changed her style of functioning after the 2008 defeat and she is now much more humble and down to earth.

The scale of the defeat has shocked the Congress. Even the relatively clean image of Ashok Gehlot has not helped the party much. The dissatisfaction among the voters across the state has helped the BJP to rout the Congress.

The victory of BJP is good news for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls. Rajasthan has Lok Sabha 25 seats. Last time the Congress has won 20 seats. This time, the Congress is likely to lose most of the seats it won in 2009.

LANDSLIDE VICTORY FOR BJP IN MADHYA PRADESH

The humble and unassuming Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has done it again. He has led the party to a third straight term in office riding on a big pro-incumbency wave. There was little doubt over his return to power. As all poll surveys predicted the BJP was the most favourite party to come to power once again. The faction ridden Congress has paid a heavy price for the third time for not projecting a single, credible leader as it s face. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who has endeared himself to the people through his welfare schemes, stole the march even before the campaign started. He has won more than 60% of the seats and cemented the position of the party. The third straight defeat in the assembly polls has certainly shocked the Congress.

The party workers whose morale is all time low are likely to desert in hordes ahead of Lok Sabha polls. The Congress faced serious allegations of sale of tickets and cronyism. The factions led by Digvijaya Singh, Kamlanath, Suresh Pachauri and Jyotiraditya Scindhia fought with each other over distribution of tickets. Despite a high decibel campaign by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the party has lost the state.

Even though Narendra Modi had campaigned in MP, it is more of a Shivraj Singh Chauhan victory. For the voters, he was the hope and they rallied behind him. His government also faced charges of serious corruption. But, the moribund Congress failed to encash it because of its own internal problems.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won 18 out of 29 seats in the state. The Congress won 11 seats. This time, the BJP is likely to reap rich dividends from MP in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

Overall, it is a huge set back for the Congress and it will surely take a long time to recover from the shock.
