New Delhi: Union Telecom and Law Minister Kapil Sibal has finally joined Twitter. His first tweet is - "Here I am. One of you. Lets talk." More than 1800 people started following Sibal within one hour of him joining Twitter.
His introduction says - "Kapil Sibal @KapilSibal Represents Chandni Chowk in the Lok Sabha. Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology; Law & Justice. By profession, a Lawyer".
Till recently, Sibal was known for his strong stand against social media. He is even accused of trying to censor the social media, which he allegedly thinks is working against the ruling Congress at the Centre. Some of his actions against the social media led to an outrage across the virtual world in 2012.
However Sibal has denied all such allegations. He says he is for a free society and does not want to censor free speech.
People close to him are interpreting him joining Twitter as an attempt reach out to the voters ahead of the most crucial Lok Sabha polls due in April-May 2014.
Even though some of his Cabinet colleagues are already using twitter with Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor being a real star with almost 20 lakh followers on twitter.
Over 600 followers, many comments. Thank you all for the very interesting #twitter welcome!— Kapil Sibal (@KapilSibal) November 28, 2013
