New Delhi: Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda has told CNN-IBN that they would decide on the trust vote on Sunday after the JD(S) political affairs committee meeting.
With both the Central Government and the Opposition getting ready for the Vote of Confidence on July 22, political events are now overtaking the politics.
Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda's mantra seems to be 'delay a decision as much as possible' as he realises that his two votes matter much to the UPA.
JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda, who arrived here on Saturday to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, refused to divulge his party's strategy, saying he will consult his party leaders before deciding on whether they should support the government.
The Prime Minister had yesterday called up Deve Gowda to seek his party's support during the trust vote on July 22. Deve Gowda is expected to meet Singh here to discuss the issue further.
JD(S) leaders yesterday authorised Gowda to take an appropriate decision on the matter. The former Prime Minister has said any decision on supporting the UPA government during the upcoming trust vote in the Lok Sabha will be taken keeping in mind the interests of JD(S).
JD(S) President of the party's Kerala unit MP Veerendrakumar said on Friday that all the three JD(S) MPs, including party chief H D Deve Gowda, will oppose the vote of confidence sought by the UPA Government on July 22.
"Let me make it very clear that it has been decided after our telephonic talk this morning that Gowda will also oppose the trust vote", he told PTI on Friday.
"Gowda spoke to me after he spoke to the Prime Minister", he said when asked about Gowda's statements made in Bangalore earlier in the day.
Veerendrakumar said "Gowda told me that a decision has been taken that he and the other MP (Shivanna) would vote against the government and wanted me also to join them in doing so besides speaking as the party's Parliamentary leader".
Asked if he had not disassociated from JD(S) headed by Gowda after protesting against the formation of a coalition government with BJP in Karnataka in 2006, he said all the three MPs were elected on the same party symbol and it was very important for the party now to oppose the trust vote together.
