'Genocide of Hindus': WCD Minister Smriti Irani Lashes Out at Mamata Over Sandeshkhali Allegations
Union minister Smriti Irani also accused TMC chief Mamata Banerjee of trading the dignity of vulnerable communities like the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes for "political benefits"

Women and child development minister Smriti Irani on Monday targeted the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal, alleging that the chief minister is “known for the genocide of Hindus”. Her no-holds-barred attack came after local residents of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, alleged that TMC strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his aides grabbed land and sexually assaulted women.

In fact, governor CV Ananda Bose has also gone to Sandeshkhali to take stock of the situation, where people have resorted to violence demanding Shajahan’s immediate arrest. “That she (Mamata Banerjee) will now allow her men to pick young Hindu married women to rape them night after night in the TMC office, cannot be articulated in mere words,” Irani said, citing the specifics of the Sandeshkhali allegations.

She asked: “The question is, can we as citizens be mute spectators?”

Irani further accused the TMC boss of trading the dignity of vulnerable communities like the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes for “political benefits”. Recently, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes wrote to the West Bengal chief secretary and director general of police asking them to revert on what action they have taken.

Taking a swipe at senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, but without naming him, the minister said: “Who is leading a yatra for justice in the country and also keeping mum?”

Gandhi is holding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and has not spoken about this controversy so far.
