Devendra Fadnavis defends Pankaja Munde, says will conduct probe if needed
"Pankaja called me and she said she had not committed any irregularity and is ready to face any inquiry," Fadnavis said.

Mumbai: Reacting to the allegations of scam against women and child development minister Pankaja Munde, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday night "prima facie" she seemed to have done nothing wrong.

"Prima facie there appears to be no wrong-doing (on Pankaja's part). If needed, we will probe the issue," he said.

"Pankaja called me and she said she had not committed any irregularity and is ready to face any inquiry," Fadnavis said.

Opposition Congress and others have raised the issue of Rs 206 crore-worth purchases sanctioned by Munde for women and child welfare department on a single day, alleging that she violated rules in the process.

BJP MLA Pankaja Munde is in the eye of the storm after being accused of flouting norms in a Rs-206 crore order she placed during her tenure as Maharashtra women and child development minister.

The minister had allegedly cleared purchase of chikki, mats and books for Rs 206 crore without floating tenders for the same. According to rules, any government purchase above Rs 3 lakh has to be done through e-tendering.

Munde had reportedly cleared 24 government resolutions on the same day.

The Congress party has filed a complaint in this regard with the state anti-corruption bureau, giving a detailed report to the body. The opposition has also sought an investigation into the case.

Hitting out at the BJP-led government, Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken demanded a judicial probe into the issue under a sitting High Court judge. He further said that any other minister involved in the issue must also be brought under scanner.
