DCW issues notice to AAP MLA Somnath Bharti over complaint filed by his wife regarding domestic violence
DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said, "We have called Somnath on June 26 to clarify allegations against him about domestic violence."

New Delhi: In yet another embarrassment for the Aam Aadmi Party, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday issued a notice to party's Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti over complaint filed by his wife regarding domestic violence. DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said, "We have called Somnath on June 26 to clarify allegations against him about domestic violence."

Following a complaint by Bharti's wife, DCW earlier on Thursday served a notice to the former Delhi law minister.

Bharti's wife Lipika Mitra has alleged that the AAP leader has been indulging in domestic violence since 2011, a year after their marriage in 2010. Mitra also claimed that she had filed a case of domestic violence against Bharti at a police station in Dwarka in 2011.

According to Bharti's wife, she initially felt that the violence would stop with time, but it failed to stop and hence, she now wants separation from the AAP leader.

DCW chief Barkha Singh said that Bharti had been indulging in domestic violence since his marriage with Lipika Mitra, adding that he had also been harassing his two kids.

The DCW chief further said that Bharti has even threatened to kill his wife.

Earlier in the day, some women health workers protesting outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence showed black flags to the AAP leader. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also staged protest outside Bharti's residence, demanding an apology from the Malviya Nagar MLA over the complaints of his wife.
