Convene Assembly: Mulayam to Governor
The decision comes barely a few hours after the government averted a possible showdown with the Raj Bhawan.

New Delhi: Moving away from its earlier plan, Mulayam Singh government on Friday decided to convene the Assembly for the winter session.

The UP cabinet took the decision to recommend to the Governor to convene a fresh joint-session of the state legislature in a meeting in Lucknow on Friday morning.

The new session would be decided in consultation with the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said after the meeting.

Though the Chief Minister refused to divulge the date of convening the Assembly, sources said the session would be convenend on January 18.

The decision comes barely a few hours after the government averted a possible showdown with the Raj Bhawan by deciding not to reconvene the monsoon session on January 15 after Governor T V Rajeswar prorogued it.

Earlier the UP cabinet met three times on Wednesday and decided to re-convene the monsoon session of the Assembly on January 15, but Mulayam has now decided to accept Governor T V Rajeshwar’s decision.
