Kolkata: The BJP on Sunday claimed that the Congress and its allies were using black money for campaigning in five states going for Assembly polls and said it would lodge a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) in this regard.
"The Congress and its allies are flowing out black money like water. They are converting corruption currency into campaign currency. EC should take suo motu action. We will also complain to the EC if necessary," BJP vice-president in charge of West Bengal Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told a press conference.
Referring to the detention of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jhakhand Kanwar Deep Singh at Delhi Airport on Saturday, Naqvi claimed this was a small example of how black money was being used by an ally of the Congress for the elections.
Describing Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee as an opportunist, both during her stint with the NDA and her present alliance with the UPA, Naqvi said, "The only difference now is that she is protecting the Maoists in return for their support to her."
Asked whether Banerjee would make a good chief minister for West Bengal, Naqvi replied in the negative, saying, "If she becomes chief minister, then the state will have a worse government from the present bad government."
