New Delhi: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation under it Joint Director (Northeast) to look into the alleged fraud in the West Bengal Saradha chit fund case. CBI officials from West Bengal, Odisha, Northeast and Bihar will also be part of the SIT.
The SIT will first collect all relevant documents before registering the FIR in the matter. The probe will also look into the larger conspiracy angle.
The steps have been taken after the Supreme Court on Friday directed the CBI to look into allegations of fraud in the Saradha case in which investors were duped of Rs 10,000 crore.
A PIL had been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an investigation into the alleged scam spread over Assam, West Bengal and Odisha.
Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen was arrested in Kashmir by West Bengal Police officials. Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Kumar Ghosh, too, was arrested on November 23, 2013 in connection with the scam.
